More sculpted rock formations on North Fox Island, Georgian Bay. Look closely and you can see a mink in the centre of the photo. I saw several roaming my little island over the course of three days.

I noticed this hawk outside my kitchen window, sitting on the fence. I grabbed my camera, threw on a telephoto lens and shot a few frames through the backdoor window as it flew away.

Three birch trees on the side of Hwy 69, south of Sudbury, Ontario. f16, 1/25s, 145mm, ISO 200.

I saw a photo of this tree on Jason Chu’s site and had to make a photo of my own before the City of Toronto decides to ‘right’ this tree or remove altogether.

Most of the Trilliums along Trillium Trail (Bronte Creel Provincial Park) are past their peak. I was lucky to find this flower at the foot of this tree.

Sunflowers in Prince Edward County, Ontario. I saw these early one morning in a farmer’s field and spent the next half hour taking photos of this field. This grouping is my favourite.

The wood pile at a friend’s cottage. Credit goes to the Lissa for spotting this photo. The star pattern in the top left corner of the photo caught her eye. Yesterday I came across a similar photo of a wood pile in Tuscany by Peter Watson, author of Capturing the Light. Camera data: 0.6 seconds at f7.1, ISO 100, 60mm macro lens, tripod. Levels adjustment and sharpening in Photoshop.

Trying out the new 70-300mm lens along a the Doris McArthy trail. The image stabilizer on this lens is incredible and should allow for a lot of handheld photos that are nice and sharp. ISO 400, 1/500, f/5.6, 75mm. Yes, the ISO setting was mistakenly left at 400 for this photo.

I was walking along the Doris McCarthy Trail when I noticed this yellow leaf in the snow, backlit by the early morning sun. ISO 100, 1/250, f/4.5, 17-40@40mm, hand-held.

I’ve taken a number of photos of this interesting tree in Rosetta McLain Gardens I think a B/W shot suits it best. It’s also a good excuse to use the BW Workflow Pro Plugin that I just got from fredmiranda.com. Canon EOS 350D, EF17-40mm at 20mm, 1/10s at f/4, 100 ISO, tripod.

More flowers from Rosetta McLain Gardens. I’d love to get a macro lens to see more detail on close-up subjects like this. Notice the fine hairs on the flower buds. I used a polarizing filter for this photo which really brings out the colour saturation (compare this photo to the previous one).
